The beaches in the Grenadines are well renowned for being uncrowded and simply beautiful. Hang up a hammock between palm trees with a good book or snorkel in the azure blue sea – the choice is yours.
Our Favourite Beaches in the Grenadines
Grand Anse Beach – Grenada
Grenada’s iconic Grand Anse beach is simply one of the best. 2.5 miles of picturesque white sand melts into the calm turquoise water of the Caribbean Sea. Grand Anse beach lies in a protected bay where sun seekers are sheltered from waves, wind, and strong currents.
Many of the major hotels, restaurants, and bars overlook this long stretch of sand. It is the most popular beach in Grenada, however, it never appears too crowded. Visit one of the scuba diving and snorkelling centres, hire a hobie cat or enjoy one of the other watersports available.
La Sagesse – Grenada
A calming cove which is great for those who like peace and quiet. The white and grey sand stretches along the south east coastline of St. David’s parish; one of our favourite beaches in Grenada for its seclusion and beauty. The shallow water makes a perfect paddling area for younger children and families to enjoy.
La Sagesse beach is a 5 minute walk from the main road and next to the La Sagesse Nature Centre, where visitors can explore stunning tropical gardens. Along the beach, La Sagesse Hotel, Restaurant & Beach Bar is offers refreshments and food.
Saline Island – Carriacou
Located 3.3 miles south west of Carriacou, this idyllic islet is a great lunch time stop when sailing. There is a single unoccupied beach house, a salt lagoon, mangroves, and an ancient lime kiln. Saline Island is only accessible by yacht or helicopter – how’s that for seclusion?!
The snorkelling is really good with shallow boulder reef formations and plenty of Caribbean fish to see. If exploring remote beaches in the Grenadines is your thing, then you’ll love this location.
Sandy Island – Carriacou
The aptly named island is just as described… a white sand strip of desert island that lies off the west coast of Carriacou. Pack a picnic, grab your drinks cooler, and spend a blissful day sunbathing and snorkelling. Sandy Island is truly one of the best beaches in the Grenadines for zoning out in paradise.
Don’t forget your snorkelling gear to explore the Sandy Island Oyster Bed Marine Protected Area (SIOBMPA) where shallow reef and rocks provide shelter to the juvenile sea life.
Saltwhistle Bay – Mayreau
Saltwhistle Bay stretches along the entire northern tip of Mayreau. There are actually two beaches – the leeward and the windward. The windward is popular with kite surfers and boarders, and the leeward with those who like to soak up the sunshine in relative calm.
Saltwhistle Bay provides a natural anchorage with good holding – perfect for overnight or lunchtime stops. After soaking in the topaz sea to cool down, you can visit the resort for refreshments or take a short hike to the quaint Church at the top of the hill.
Petit St. Vincent
The epitome of a romantic Caribbean beach. This tiny private island is encircled by white sand and ultramarine water. As far as beaches in the Grenadines go, Petit St. Vincent is one of the most heavenly.
The anchorage is well protected and the sandy bottom gives a secure hold. Pop over on the dinghy for cocktails at the beach bar or to simply soak up the sunshine. The perfect place for sandy toes and salty kisses!
Tobago Cays Marine Park
A visitor favourite, the beaches in the Tobago Cays will not disappoint. Expect palm trees, pure white sand, a blindingly blue sea, and the best lobster BBQs!
Walk around Baradel to see a wonderful array of creatures from iguanas to red-legged tortoises. Snorkel along the shoreline and discover protected sea turtles, stingrays, sea stars, and eagle rays.
Remember that famous scene from Pirates of Caribbean where Captain Jack Sparrow gets stranded on a desert island? That was filmed on Petit Tabac!
Macaroni Beach – Mustique
One of the most famous beaches in the Grenadines, Macaroni beach on Mustique is where the royals and celebrities go to enjoy some private beach time. It is a favourite destination of the British Royal family and rock stars such as Mick Jagger.
Macaroni beach is on the north east side of the island, offering boisterous conditions perfect for avid body boarders and surfers.
Lower Bay – Bequia
As far as beaches in the Grenadines go this one is a classic. Pure white sand lazily stretches along the western coast of Bequia and is well protected from the Atlantic swell. Simply anchor your boat and swim ashore to experience Bequia’s traditional charm. The clear water is shallow and nice for swimming or snorkelling over the sandy bottom.
Lower Bay has a few local rum shops and restaurants along the quiet road behind the beach. Sundays are normally the busiest day of the week, when local families and friends meet up for BBQs and beach activities. There are great parties here during the Bequia Easter Regatta and the Bequia Music Fest.
