With many Caribbean regattas to compete in, Grenada Sailing Week is a firm contender as one of the best. The warmth of the island is reflected in this charmingly inclusive regatta, where the crew camaraderie flows as freely as the Mount Gay rum.
Grenada Sailing Week Sponsors & Hosts
Big thanks go out to all the sponsors who enable this fun-filled Caribbean regatta to take place. Island Water World, Grenada Tourism Authority, SeaHawk Paints, Spice Island Marine Services, and Mount Gay were the major sponsors of the event. Host venues Port Louis Marina and Prickly Bay Marina ensured that the prize-giving ceremonies and wild parties were nights to remember. And let’s not forget the brilliant music fest on Saturday night. Go to the GSW Facebook page for all the pictures!
Crew member Mark from Canada:
All of the venues were excellent with Prickly Bay Marina a personal favourite. It must have been good fun because I can’t actually remember most of the parties!
Grenada Sailing Week Committee & Volunteers
A huge thanks to the Grenada Sailing Week 2015 volunteers and committee members. They worked tirelessly to provide a smooth-running event with happy sailors both on and off the water. There were 39 registered yachts that ranged from impressive classics, to CSA racers, and the new class addition of J-24 racers. A thrilling spectacle whether racing or on shore.
Grenada Sailing Week Racing
The courses at this Caribbean regatta were always going to excite. The west coast had challenging, shifty winds with flat water windward/leeward racing. The south coast excelled with tempestuous conditions during the short, fast races that roused every skipper. There was a great selection of 9 courses for the CSA Division and a mind-blowing 16 races for the One Design J-24s. The competitive Classics brought style to the proceedings, with Coral of Cowes taking first in class. Check out all the results here.
Crew member Michelle from Canada:
I wanted to race in a Caribbean regatta as something a bit different from a normal vacation and I wasn’t disappointed. A fabulous off resort adventure!
On Bluewater Sailing’s Chao Lay, we were joined by a fantastic mix of international and Grenadian crew. Great performances by Mark and Michelle, from Canada, who ran the main sheet and clutches; and Lesley, from the UK, working the winches on the tack. These three also deserve an honourable mention as the most dedicated party-goers of the regatta. Kai Best skilfully worked the foredeck demonstrating his racing finesse alongside Stuart Ramsay.
Skipper Alex Johnstone from Grenada Bluewater Sailing:
Grenada Sailing Week 2015 was a resounding success with great racing and a wonderful atmosphere throughout. Our thanks go to all the organisers and other sponsors who make this a week to remember in Grenada. We’ll see you again in 2016 at the best Caribbean regatta of the year!
