RYA Competent Crew – Learn the Ropes!
This fun RYA sailing course is for beginners and novices who would like to become active crew members. There are no prerequisites for this course – except for the desire to experience the beautiful islands of Grenada and the Grenadines by sail!
Experience living on board as active crew members, and really get to know the workings of the boat, with this fun and informative course. The majority of the RYA Competent Crew training is hands on and action packed; you are the crew, without you the sails won’t go up and the boat won’t sail around the picturesque islands of the Grenadines. This learn to sail course can be taken as either a five or seven day trip.
RYA Competent Crew – What will I achieve?
By the end of this RYA certification course you should be able to steer, handle sails, keep a lookout, row a dinghy, and assist in the day-to-day duties on board. We encourage students to be involved in every aspect of the daily running of the yacht, in order to get maximum enjoyment and experience. After successful completion of the course, you will receive an RYA Competent Crew certificate that is internationally recognised.
RYA Competent Crew – What will I see?
Not only will you learn to sail on this super RYA training course, but you will visit amazing tropical islands, explore traditional Caribbean culture, and have a very enjoyable vacation! We tailor the itinerary daily to suit weather, sea conditions, and any personal requests for specific islands. Our experienced RYA Instructors know all the best spots to stop for snorkelling, hiking, lunch, or dinner. The islands are a great place to learn as they offer exciting inter-island sailing during the day, and calm anchorages for the night.

Sailing yacht Chao Lay is suitable for singles, couples, groups of friends, or families – she measures 46 feet, and has 3 spacious en-suite cabins. A solid blue water cruiser, she is very steady to sail and beautifully kept. Chao Lay is equipped with all the latest safety equipment, and we adhere to all MCA and RYA standards. We keep waterproofs and life jackets on board for everyone (although if there is a short rain shower you will be dry again in 2 minutes!)
