The RYA Day Skipper practical course is for skippers who wish to advance their navigation and sailing skills beyond a basic level.

At Grenada Bluewater Sailing you will learn to sail short passages with our fantastic RYA instructors close at hand. They will give you advice and tuition tailored to your level of experience. All of our courses are performance-based and so you progress at a speed suited to you, with lots of encouragement. The RYA Sail Cruising Scheme is internationally recognised and widely regarded as providing the highest quality of sail training.
Be in charge!
It is a great experience to be in charge as an RYA Day Skipper – taking credit when it all goes well, and being responsible when it doesn’t. Our patient RYA instructors are there to guide and assist you. The RYA Day Skipper certification means you will be able to skipper a small yacht in familiar waters by day. This certification is a requirement for bareboat chartering, although we always recommend joining a flotilla or crewed charter for your first adventure as a skipper.
What do I learn?
Our RYA Day Skipper training takes place over 5 or 7 days. Grenada Bluewater Sailing will guide you through preparation for sea, deck work, navigation, pilotage, and meteorology. You will learn the rules of the road, maintenance and repair work, engines, and how to cope in emergency situations. You develop your team work and knowledge on every level of skippering a yacht: from victualling to cooking and navigating to helming.

The really exciting part comes when you start learning how to handle the yacht – both under sail and under power. Our previous students have loved the experience of inter-island passage making and night cruising – great highlights of the RYA Day Skipper course. At Grenada Bluewater Sailing, your RYA Day Skipper course is classed as tidal and we endorse your certificate accordingly.

And that’s not all! Alongside achieving your RYA Day Skipper certification, you get a once-in-a-lifetime adventure sailing between the pristine islands of Grenada and the Grenadines. These islands are so diverse in culture and scenery – you will see dramatic volcanic formations and quintessential white sand islands.
